Unisa Press Preprint Server - UNISARxiv: Home

Welcome to the LibGuide for UNISARxiv, the official preprint server of Unisa Press. This guide provides an overview of preprints, their importance in scholarly communication, and how it facilitates early research sharing while ensuring academic integrity.

What is a Preprint?

A preprint is an early version of a research manuscript that authors share publicly before formal peer review. Preprints allow researchers to:

  1.  Disseminate findings quickly to a wider audience for feedback.
  2.  Keep the option to submit the manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal later.
  3. Foster collaboration and discussion among researchers.
  4. Provide a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) for easy citation.

Preprint Policies

Most major academic publishers allow authors to share preprints of their manuscripts on preprint servers before or during the peer review process. Posting preprints is generally not considered prior publication and does not affect the consideration of the manuscript for publication. Authors are encouraged to update preprint records with links to the final published article once it is accepted. Some publishers, like Taylor & Francis, specify that preprints should be shared on non-commercial servers, while others, like Science Direct (Elsevier), allow preprints to be shared anywhere at any time.

For more detailed information, you can refer to the respective publishers' websites:

What is UnisaRxiv?

UNISARxiv is hosted on ScienceOpen and serves as the preprint platform for Unisa researchers.

UNISARxiv:

  • Focuses on hosting preprints—early versions of research manuscripts.
  • Allows public access and collaboration before formal peer review.
  • Manuscripts are submitted to iThenticate for plagiarism checking prior to sharing.

Key Features:

  • Open-access publishing of preprints.
  • Integration with ORCID for researcher identity verification.
  • Immediate sharing of research outputs with the global academic community.
  • Preprints are submitted to iThenticate by Unisa Press before publication, providing authors with a similarity index to enhance research integrity.
