Unisa celebrates leadership and literacy at Public Library Workshop Ceremony

Unisa recently hosted a Leadership Workshop Certificate Awarding Ceremony to enhance collaboration with public libraries. In partnership with the Gauteng Region, Department of Information Sciences and Unisa Library, the event highlighted the university's commitment to fostering strong leadership and building sustainable relationships with public library management.

Unisa recently hosted a Leadership Workshop Certificate Awarding Ceremony to enhance collaboration with public libraries.

Professor Mpho Ngoepe, Executive Director of Library Services, opened the ceremony by emphasising the importance of celebrating knowledge during Literacy Month. He remarked: "Together we are going, and together we will go far." Professor Lorette Jacobs, Head of the Department of Information Science, discussed the department's development courses, including artificial intelligence, digital humanities, and decolonisation. She also announced that they are working on a fully digitised three-year degree in Archives Management, which aims to align with the field's evolving needs. In celebration of Literacy Month, Jacobs also mentioned an upcoming community engagement project in Limpopo, where learners can share their stories at a Storytelling Summit. She urged attendees to "make this partnership last" and reminded everyone that education is a shared responsibility.

In partnership with the Gauteng Region, Department of Information Sciences and Unisa Library, the event highlighted the university's commitment to fostering strong leadership and building sustainable relationships with public library management.

The Regional Director of the Gauteng Region underscored the value of library partnerships for the benefit of Unisa and the students. She expressed appreciation for the work of Unisa's partners in providing students with essential access to resources. She emphasised that these partnerships help ensure that Unisa remains relevant to its surrounding communities and that the catalytic niche areas (CNAs) state that we should be relevant to the communities. "With partnerships, we are strengthening the future," she added. One of the participants expressed her gratitude on behalf of the participants, praising the workshop for being informative, engaging, and motivating. The event concluded with the awarding of certificates to the workshop participants.
