Transformative agreements; migrating scholarly communication: Taylor & Francis

Migrating scholarly communication

Publish open access in Taylor & Francis Journals

The Unisa Library, through SANLiC, signed a transformative agreement for open access publishing in Taylor & Francis Journals in 2025. This agreement will be in place from 2024 - 2026. Unisa clients will have read access to almost 2,000 journals in the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) and Science & Technology (S&) packages.

All eligible Unisa authors, that is Unisa affiliated corresponding authors, can publish their articles open access in all Taylor & Francis Open Select (hybrid) journals without paying article processing charges (APC's). Eligible authors will also benefit from a 10% discount when they publish in Taylor & Francis fully open access (gold) journals.

There is a limit (cap) on the number of articles that can be published per year. For 2025 the cap is 1,327 articles, shared with all other participating SANLiC institutions. Articles are allocated on a first come, first served basis. The cap is split in 2 groups:

  • 37% or 491 of the article entitlement is dedicated to Unisa Press and NISC journals
  • 63% or 836 articles are available for publishing across the Open Select (hybrid) journals.

The status of the balance of articles will be updated quarterly on the SANLiC Taylor & Francis agreements page
