Publish open access with Emerald

 

The Unisa Library signed an agreement with Emerald Publishers for the gold open access publication of articles in Emerald journals, The agreement commenced in January 2022 for the period 2022 - 2024, and was renewed for another 3 years (2025-2027).

Emerald publishes over 300 scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. The database is a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary collection of journals featuring the latest, peer-reviewed international research in established and emerging areas of interest. 

The Read and Publish agreement enables SANLiC’s member libraries to freely access Emerald’s full content collection and to use vouchers to publish in Emerald’s hybrid and fully open access journals. Vouchers are allocated on a first come, first served basis amongst participating SANLiC institutions.

To be eligible, articles must: 

  • Be submitted through the Emerald Submit submission system from the journal home page 
  • Have a corresponding author affiliated with the University of South Africa
  • Be original research, eligible article types are research articles, review articles, rapid communications, brief reports and case reports
  • Be accepted for publication between 1 January and 31 December 2025. 

How to publish under this agreement: 

  • Prepare and format your manuscript according to the instructions for contributors on the journal home page
  • Submit your manuscript on your chosen journal's homepage and complete the submission form 
  • Complete your Open Access publishing agreement  by selecting a creative commons license. 
  • Your APC will automatically be waived or approved if you met the author affiliation eligibility criteria
  • The article will be published open access.
