Errors when accessing permalinks from off campus: Sabinet

Sometimes, when trying to access permalinks sent to you by the Librarians, you may get one of the following errors:

This means that the web server running the website you are trying to access has encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling your request. The server could not, however, be specific about what exactly is the problem.

If this happens please report the problem to: lib-help@unisa.ac.za.

Permalinks

Copying and pasting links to most of our article databases is not a good idea as these links are not permanent links. When you later try to access an article using the link you pasted into your email, it often does not work. This is because most databases use session IDs are good only for the time you are using the database.

Various databases, such as EBSCOHOST have a permalink option that you can use to display, copy and paste a search result URL instead. To use such an option you must select/click on the title of an article you are interested in and check for the permanent links/email option from the list of database tools and options.

Below is an example of what it looks like in EBSCOHOST:

Permalinks sent by email from a database sometimes may not work off campus or give you error messages. If this happens please report the problem to: lib-help@unisa.ac.za.
